Plastics are the wonder materials of the 20th century. Lightweight, strong, and durable, plastics are manufactured into products that consumers use every day.
There’s just one problem: plastics are too durable.
Every year, millions of tons of plastics enter our landfills. It’s estimated that plastics take up 25% of our landfills by volume today, and it can take hundreds of thousands of years for these plastics to degrade.
The solution? Biodegradable plastics.
Green/Recycled Profiles
Biodegradable plastics, or bioplastics, are derived from renewable raw materials like plant starch, cellulose, soy protein, and lactic acid and are biodegradable because microorganisms consume them as a food source. Biodegradable plastics generally achieve the best and fastest composting results in commercial composting environments. Other bioplastics are derived from fermentation products, like Polylactic Acid (PLA), and biodegradable polyesters: Poly-hydroxy-alkanoates (PHA), poly-hydroxy-butyrate (PHB) and Poly-hydroxyvalerate (PHV) which are synthesized by microbes, with the polymer being stored in the microbes’ cells during growth. Just as we store fat for future energy consumption, these microbes store polyester which is a polymer that can be used to produce plastic.
Recently, we’ve even developed a biodegradable plastic profile that is flame retardant, combining two amazing properties.
Worried about quality when considering biodegradable plastics? Worry not – you can be assured that biodegradable plastic profiles produced by Keller Products will perform as promised.
Why? Because we only use biodegradable plastics that meet the American Society for Testing and Materials standards ASTM 6400 or D6868 and that are also certified by the Biodegradable Products Institute (http://www.bpiworld.org) as having passed standards testing in approved independent laboratories.
We’re committed to customer service and satisfaction, so rest assured you’ll be pleased with the quality of our biodegradable plastic products.
